Port Shorts
Above and Beyond
When it comes to service, the Alabama Cruise Terminal, Mobile, AL, goes the extra mile. Landon Howard, vp of marketing and communications, Mobile Bay CVB, and Sheila Gurganus, the terminal's operations manager (shown below*), explained the service focus to SouthernTravelNews.com™ on a recent visit to the cruise terminal.

In addition to visitor desks staffed with volunteers during cruise periods and a friendly southern hospitality approach, the Alabama Cruise Terminal does something that's above and beyond for a cruise port.
Just before the Carnival Holiday returns to that port, port employees scour the parking garage. No, they're not issuing parking tickets. They're on the hunt for flat tires!
Most cruisers who sail from Mobile drive to the port, some from hefty distances. So it's not that uncommon for cars in the garage to have a flat, says Gurganus. She notes that coming off the ship and realizing you have a flat can be depressing after you just had such a wonderful cruise experience.
But at Mobile, the flat-tire cavalry rides to the rescue dozens of times each year. Cruisers head for their car, only to find a friendly note on the windshield stating (in essence): "We noticed you had a flat tire. We took the liberty of fixing it. Enjoy your trip home." And the service is free!

PORT REPORT: Port of Mobile, AL
If you're looking for an easy-in, easy-out port experience, the Mobile Alabama Cruise Terminal is likely a good bet. The port is highly popular with cruisers who enjoy driving to their embarkation point. Many come from Alabama and surrounding states.
The Carnival Holiday is currently the only cruise ship home ported year-round at the Port of Mobile. That said, the ship sails varied Yucatan itineraries, so cruisers might sail to Cozumel on one cruise and to Cozumel PLUS other Mexican ports on the next.
Mobile is also an attractive destination with fun sightseeing options -- from the Mobile Carnival Museum to the Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Center & IMAX, from eco-activities to a World War II battleship. Come along with freelance writer Lizz Dinnigan as she outlines some basic facts about the city and its port. Ahoy Mobile!
