CRUISING ASHORE: Tampa, FL - A Victorian "Find"

One cherished part of Tampa's history -- the old Victorian-styled Tampa Bay Hotel with its distinctive minarets -- provides a surprising contrast to the city's downtown skyscrapers.This late 18th century marvel is now a symbol of Tampa. It's also headquarters for the University of Tampa, which has lovingly preserved it for future generations.

On one end of the building is the Henry B. Plant Museum, dedicated to the railroad baron who built the hotel in the late 1800s. To step inside is to enter a time warp. The period rooms including one corner bedroom suite appear much as they were during the grand era of Florida's luxury hotels.
